Dr. Vanessa Hammer grew up on Long Island, New York. She attended The Ohio State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture and a major in Animal Sciences. While in college Dr. Hammer worked at the OSU Dairy farm vaccinating, feeding and caring for the dairy calves.

Dr. Hammer then attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts, West Indies. Afterwords she completed her clinical year of training at the University of Illinois. After graduating in 2012, Dr. Hammer volunteered as a surgeon in Panama City, Panama spaying and neutering stray dogs and cats. Dr. Hammer enjoys practicing general medicine as well as soft tissue surgery. In addition she is a USDA accredited veterinarian for NY state. Before joining the Gotham team, Dr. Hammer worked at Howard Beach Animal Clinic for three years where she performed 2-3 surgeries a day and saw over 20 patients a day.

Dr. Hammer currently lives in Chelsea with her Neapolitan Mastiff, Polo and her Lab mix, Bo. She enjoys rollerblading, cooking and traveling.
